Where
do you search for a good or service? In the yellow pages? Not likely. Most
people today use major search engines online to search for such things. Social
media is all the rage, and most major companies have either a Facebook page,
LinkedIn profiles, a blog, or a combination of these. They likely feel they
need a blog to maintain their competitive edge, because if they don’t have a
blog their competitors will.
Professional
blogs, where a business actually pays an employee to manage a company blog, are
now a part of the majority of businesses. There are many reasons companies
blog. Professional blogs can benefit companies by:
- “Humanizing the company
- Enhancing visibility
- Building credibility and trust
- Establishing industry expertise
- Promoting products and policies
- Addressing important issues
- Generating leads … and business
- Defending the company against its critics”

Blogging is so important today that some
major companies will not even consider hiring new employees who do not manage
their own personal blog.
